PFAS Claim Eligibility: Detailed Criteria

Even without using the screener above, you can evaluate your eligibility based on these criteria used by PFAS attorneys:

Exposure Requirements

Strong cases typically involve years of documented PFAS exposure — not just brief contact. Documented exposure sources include:

  • Living in a zip code served by a water system listed in EPA UCMR 5 data with PFAS above MCLs
  • Residing within 1 mile of a military installation with confirmed PFAS contamination
  • Working as a firefighter with documented AFFF foam use
  • Living downwind or downstream of an industrial PFAS discharge site
  • Blood serum PFAS test showing elevated levels (available through your doctor)

Qualifying Conditions (Currently Accepted by Most Attorneys)

  • Kidney cancer / renal cell carcinoma
  • Testicular cancer
  • Thyroid cancer
  • Thyroid disease (hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism)
  • Bladder cancer
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • High cholesterol (diagnosed, requiring medication)
  • Pregnancy-induced hypertension / preeclampsia
  • Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (select cases)

Statute of Limitations

Filing deadlines vary by state — usually 2–3 years from diagnosis or from the date you discovered the PFAS link to your illness. Some states apply a "discovery rule" that extends the deadline if you only recently learned PFAS caused your condition. Find your state's specific deadline →

When in doubt, consult an attorney. This screener is for educational purposes only. Only a licensed attorney in your state can evaluate the specific merits of your claim.
